THE "PRIMITIVE HUNT" IN MOZAMBIQUE
The concession area touches the northern border of the Niassa Hunting Block C. The hunting camp is situated on the banks of the Loreco River, from which a tributary of the Loreco originates.
Mozambique is a true paradise for hunters. The vastness and mystique of the untouched African wilderness evoke the true hunting spirit. Here, every safari enthusiast gets their fill and can experience the traditional East African safari adventure in the footsteps of Selous, Hemingway, and Ruark.
Stalking buffalo through the sandy plains or outsmarting a clever leopard requires skill, perseverance, and patience. That is the allure of Mozambique.
THIS WILDERNESS OF MOZAMBIQUE IS BLESSED WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF WILDLIFE AND OFFERS A TRUE HUNTING EXPERIENCE.
Some species that we hunt in Mozambique are rarely found in South Africa, such as the Nyassa Gnu (Connochaetes taurinus johnstoni), the Lichtenstein's Hartebeest (Alcelaphus buselaphus lichtensteinii), the Livingstone Eland (Taurotragus oryx livingstonei), and the Roosevelt Sable (Hippotragus niger roosevelti). The elusive leopard, as well as lions, can also be hunted in a true African hunting experience. This northern part of Mozambique is part of the eastern Miombo forest, which also extends into Tanzania and Malawi. The remainder of the area is mostly open savanna with some wetlands and isolated forest patches.
The vegetation includes 21 species of plants and 191 species of different trees and shrubs. The area is relatively flat with huge granite inselbergs rising above the Milibow forests, the open grasslands, the bamboo thickets, the floodplain, and the riverine forests. Hunting in Mozambique is a challenge, but the keen-eyed hunter is rewarded with a magnificent trophy, obtained through the hard "old-fashioned" way.
Hunters must be fit and capable of hiking and stalking. A typical hunting day begins by tracking buffalo, leopards, lions, or antelopes on foot through dry riverbeds or by vehicle. The trackers follow the tracks until the animals are located. Depending on the terrain, stalking and the actual shot may take a significant amount of time, as several factors come into play.
YOU ARE WELL CARED FOR DURING YOUR HUNT IN MOZAMBIQUE.
The daily meals are served at a spacious table with comfortable chairs. A generously stocked kitchen with a refrigerator and freezer is adjacent to the dining area. Due to the vastness of the area and the unpredictability of hunting, lunch packs are prepared daily for the excursions. After a successful hunt, the game is prepared into a delicious meal. In the outdoor area of the camp, there is a fire pit where hunting guests can admire the traditional spectacle of the "sundowner" (sunsets) burning over the western sky.
The spacious, airy sleeping tents are equipped with solar power and a generator. Each tent has a shower, toilet, and sink with running water. Guests sleep on beds dressed in linen sheets. A daily laundry service is included. For emergencies, the camp is equipped with satellite communication. In short, the camp is structured to provide the basic amenities one would expect at home, even in the wilderness.
Local staff from neighboring villages take care of the camp and hunting facilities. The professional hunters, trackers, and skinners have extensive knowledge of the surroundings and significant experience in hunting wildlife, including dangerous species. This knowledge and experience give hunting guests, whether novice or seasoned hunters, a sense of security and confidence. Three camp staff members ensure that your stay is pleasant and comfortable, while four trackers assist the professional hunter in tracking the animals and, after the shot, in trophy care. The hunting vehicles include a fully equipped double-cab Land Cruiser and a fully equipped single-cab Land Cruiser.
Mozambique is accessible via commercial flights from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, RSA. The flight route extends from Johannesburg to Nampula. From there, our Lureco Base Camp can be reached by charter flight from Nampula to Marupa, where hunting guests are picked up and taken to the camp.
