Several crocodile species are found in South Africa, but by far the most common is the Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus). Adult animals usually have a length of about 3 meters. However, the Nile crocodile can grow up to 6 meters long. The reptiles are olive-brown on the upper side and partially dark-spotted, while the belly is light gray to ivory-colored.
